Common questions
Will my data be lost if I switch iPhones?
No, as long as you have iCloud Backup turned on (most people do, by default). Your HackDiet database lands in your encrypted iCloud backup and restores automatically when you set up your new iPhone. You can also export a portable XML file any time via Settings → Export Data and import it on the new device.
Can I import data from another app?
Today: only the Hacker's Diet Online XML format and Apple Health (via HealthKit) are supported. Other trackers are on the roadmap but we won't list them as supported until we've validated a clean round-trip against real exports. See Switching from another app for the current per-tracker status.
How does the Apple Health integration work?
The short version: Apple Health fills empty days, days you type in HackDiet are never overwritten, and if Apple Health has several weights on the same day, HackDiet uses the latest one. The long version covers permissions, what gets written back, how to reset just HackDiet's Health data without affecting other metrics, and edge cases — see Apple Health & HackDiet.
Why doesn't HackDiet sync to a website / cloud / Watch / Garmin?
The privacy promise is that your weight data stays on your device. We trust Apple Health (where you opt in) and iCloud Backup (which Apple end-to-end encrypts), and that's it. Vendor-API integrations turn into a maintenance graveyard the moment those vendors change their terms — Withings, Fitbit, Garmin, Strava, Pebble all have a history of breaking integrations on a dime. We'd rather ship a feature once and have it stay working.
Apple Watch app?
Not in v1. It's a candidate for a later version if there's clear demand from owners of the iPhone app. Email if you'd find one useful — actual demand from real users is the signal that would prioritise it.
Refunds
App Store refunds go through Apple, not us. You can request a refund directly at reportaproblem.apple.com within Apple's stated window. If something is broken or missing in HackDiet that motivates a refund, we'd love to hear about it first — most issues we can fix faster than the Apple refund flow runs.
Family Sharing
Yes — HackDiet is enabled for Family Sharing in the App Store settings, so one purchase covers everyone in your Apple Family group.
Bug reports + feature requests
Email support@lambda-m.nl with as much detail as you can: iPhone model, iOS version, what you were doing, what you expected, what happened. Screenshots help. We don't have a public issue tracker for the iPhone app on purpose — most "bugs" turn out to be questions that resolve in a single email exchange.
